Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year everyone! I feel like I spent most of 2009 pregnant and tired; then after Claire came, I spent the last quarter of the year happy, smelly, and very tired! She's so worth it though! Good news, two teeth are coming in!
I put her on her tummy, and she managed to roll over 5 times! Still working on how to roll from back to front, but she is really good at rolling back to side.

This was such a fun moment! Claire and Era parallel playing (I learned that term from my super smart sister in law). Era was so excited to see Claire and it was funny to hear Era "talking" to her.
The cousins took a Christmas eve bath together. It was really fun hearing Ardis sing "Rubber Ducky" to Era. She probably doesn't know that I heard her, but she inspired me to be more fun and singy when I'm talking to Claire. Man am I glad someone else had a baby before me! She sure does know a lot!
To change the subject, I'm extremely excited for the new year. It's a new year, a fresh start, and another chance. Since I had Claire during the beginning of the school year, I feel like my first semester of work has been nothing but trying to keep my head above water. I'm part time counseling and part time ISS coordinator now, so I had to learn a new job. Plus, there's a nasty funk over schools this past semester. It seems like no matter who I talk to, every person in education is feeling the "yuckiness" that's going on. Can't quite put my finger on it, but I've decided that I have no power to change big laws and decisions, but I can be the best counselor and ISS coordinator Kell has ever seen! So, I'm spending my break recharging, reorganizing, and loving on Claire and my plan is to ATTACK second semester head on!!
Some of my other new year's resolutions include:
- Going to church more often
- Go on a date with my husband. I realized that we haven't been without Claire on a date except for the Georgia Tech game. So part of our new year's resolution is to carve out some time to spend with just the two of us and Claire is going to play with someone who is nice enough to babysit her :o).
- Of course lose weight- who doesn't have that goal???
- I want to run the Peachtree- so I'm going to start training for the 6.2 miles
- I want to host at least 3 parties. I just may host one and invite you!
- Take advantage of my mommy nights! I miss my friends and I love hanging out with them!
- Stick to Claire's schedule!
- Redo a room each quarter- I'm stoked about this one!
I have more, but those are just a few things that I will be working on in 2010.
I'm attempting each one of these resolutions, but I need the support of everyone!! 2010 is going to be my year to shine! - This is what my Shape magazine said to me :o)

Long time no post!

Wow, I haven't posted in quite some time and a lot of things have happened!

1. Claire is now 5 months old!! I can't believe that she has been here for 5 months and I can't believe all the cool things she can do! She's so funny and will smile really big, loves baths, rolls over (not often), loves her exersaucer, and has a kinda quiet personality.
2. Claire's boyfriend, Evan, is about two weeks old- he's a cutie! I can't wait for more play dates with Meredith and Michael!
3. The semester at school finally came to an end. Holy cow, that was the LONGEST semester of my life! Good news is we will have a better calendar next year and we already have a family vacation planned!
4. My parents, Jeff, Claire, and I went to Biloxi, MS. On Sunday, we went to New Orleans. Claire did so well rolling around in her stroller looking at all the fun people and cute buildings. I love the shotgun homes on Magazine street!

I'm really excited about 2010 and I can't wait to start- and finish!- my new year's resolutions! I know I have a lot!!

They grow up so fast...

Sometimes it feels like I've been a mom forever. Probably because I spend most of my sleeping time being awake. But to think that I've only had her for 4 months is crazy! I remember wishing she would wake up so that I could play with her, and now all I think about is getting her to sleep. I still love playing with her, but I find that the better she sleeps during the day, the better she sleeps at night! She is such an active little girl. She rolls over from front to back and from back to front (it's not often, but she's practicing it!). She is cooing and talking back, which is the cutest thing ever! When she eats, she will pull away and smile at me and then goes back to eating. I love all the little things she does and I feel like she's growing up way too fast!!!!

Here are her 4 month stats:
Height: 24.5 inches
Weight 13.10 oz.

Can you believe it! She's doing so well! She is starting to teeth, she has rolled over a few times, she is a smiley girl, and she loves to play! We are so blessed!!!

Random Thoughts

1. MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. The letters T and G are very close to each other on a keyboard. This recently became all too apparent to me and, consequently, I will never be ending a work email with the phrase "Regards" again.

5. There is a great need for sarcasm font.

6. I would rather try to carry 10 plastic grocery bags in each hand than take 2 trips to bring my groceries in.

7. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

8. Was learning cursive really necessary?

9. Whenever someone says "I'm not book smart, but I'm street smart", all I hear is, "I'm not real smart - but I'm imaginary smart."

10. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?

11. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front.

12. Bad decisions make good stories.

13. Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from; this shouldn't be a problem ...

14. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren't doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

15. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after DVDs? I don't want to have to restart my collection.

16. I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Darn it!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

17. I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

18. I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it's on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my iTunes.

19. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is. 20. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

21. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller than Kay.

Family Photos!!!

I've never been to keen on having my photo taken and I was disappointed by my wedding photos. I convieniently "forgot" to take pictures of myself while I was pregnant. I did have maternity pictures scheduled, but then I had Claire the day before (I think God was even telling me not to get my picture taken!). I have a really awesome Cannon Rebel camera that can take phenomenal pictures and I thought this would be enough, but I wanted more. I decided to reschedule with the photographer who was going to do my maternity pictures. Her name is Jessica Villemain (remember her name because she is going places!) and she lives in Augusta. I waited patiently for her to come back up to Woodstock and when she said she was coming, I was super excited! Jessica took phenomenal pictures! She is so talented and it didn't take very long!

The address to her blog is http://jvillemainphotography.blogspot.com/. If you want to see all of our pictures (and they are super cute!), go to http://www.jessicavphotography.com/index2.php?v=v1 click on clients and put in the password "roswell."

These are soooo cute!!!!! Love them and thank you so much Jessica Villemain!!!

An adventure with Granma Nissen and the Gals!

It's friday, which is "Mommy time" and Granma Nissen took the girls to Sips n strokes! It's very important that sips is plural because there is a Sip n stroke (no 's') less than a mile away. We got there and all of us were so anxious to begin our paintings! I'm such a type A personality (and so is my big!), but the lady was really helpful in making us feel better. My canvas began like this...
And ended like this...
I'm not much of an artist, but I really enjoyed myself! All of us were giggling at the woman's super annoying laugh, I dropped my paint pallet (paint down of course) onto the carpet, and we were super excited to hang out with each other!

There wasn't much room left on the walls, but I managed to get my name and Claire's initials on a few inches of space.
And what do you know?! Guess who went to Sips n strokes a while back?? Yep, Mrs. Ardis Lussier!! So excited to see her name!
All in all, I had a blast! I can't wait to try more paintings to hang in my house!! :o)

Three months!! <3

I can't believe Claire is 3 Months old!!! Where has time gone? We don't know how much she weights or how long she is (no doctor visit this month), but we unofficially weighed her on the pumpkin scale and she was about 13 lbs. As far as how long she is, well she can't fit into 0-3 month clothes because they are too short for her, but they are still too wide- go figure!
She does all sorts of fun things now! Claire smiles, she sleeps longer, she plays by herself, and she is starting to make fun squealing noises.
I'd like to shout out to the grandma's- My mom and Jeff's mom have been absolutely wonderful to Claire. I think I would have an anxiety attack if she didn't have grandma care every day. So thank you so much for dealing with Claire, who is often gassy, fussy, likes to be held, hates going to sleep in a crib, but will gladly post up on your "pillows" for hours. We really appreciate your patience and love!! :o)
On another note, I got to hang out with Teresa and Emily Munteanu this friday night and we had a fun low key night! We went to dinner at Swallow on the Hallow in Roswell, then we watch The Proposal (pretty cute movie). I'm thankful that they came by to see me and Claire (and they even helped to put Claire to sleep!). I can't wait to see every one else soon!
On my final random note, Emily Munteanu asked me some serious decorating questions. So this weekend, I am planning on painting, carpeting, and moving the flat screen tv into the florida room. We're planning on making that our "room we hang out the most in." After all of my decorating shows (especially Sarah Richardson- thanks to Marci!) I have decided to paint my florida room a warm vanilla color. I'll post before and after pictures soon!

Sweet sleeping baby

Putting Claire to sleep takes a few minutes each night, but it's well worth the rocking, walking, and singing. I love when she sleeps with her mouth open like this...

Or when she's sleep sticking her tongue out like this... Or has a funny dream, like this... The good news is that she is sleeping from 9:00pm to 7:00am, but the semi-embarassing news is that she is still sleeping in our room. I'm mentally working on moving her into her room, but with the occasional midnight feeding, sometimes it's just easier to have her in the room with us. We were going through this time where she would wake up at 5:00am- that wasn't very fun. Even though I'm up at all hours of the night, it is so worth it to see her beautiful smiling face! Love her!!

Playtime at the Pumpkin Patch!!

We went to the Berry Patch Farm today to get three pumpkins (daddy pumpkin, mommy pumpkin, and baby Claire pumpkin). I can't believe how cold it was and I tried to dress Claire as warm as I possible could, but she didn't care- she was an awesome trooper!! She loved looking around at the pumpkins and the other screaming kids. Claire was so patient while I looked for cute photo places and searched for the best pumpkins. We put Claire on the scale and weighed her- she was almost 13 lbs! I'm not sure that's exactly right, but at least I know my baby girl is growing! She fell asleep on the way home, but then woke up and was super smiley!

On another note, Jeff and I went to the Georgia Tech vs. Virigina Tech game. Three words- it was awesome. I couldn't believe GT won!!! It was the first time Claire was baby sat by someone other than Harmony or Mimi. My wonderful co-worker, Maureen and her daughter Colleen, watched her. She was such a good baby for them and I'm so proud of her! I won't lie, I did kinda cry in the car on the way to the game, but I knew she was in fantastic hands!! I'm so thankful for her!!

Sleepy Girl!

It never ceases to amaze me how stinking cute my baby is!! I wake up, I'm rushing around to get ready, then I go to get Claire and this is what I see...
I love everything about her and I just can't get enough of how cute she is!! When I have a crappy day at work, I come home to her and she makes all the bad go away. She is so worth it!

It's the little things...

It's the little things that make me smile...

Saturday, October 3, 2009

Fall is here and Claire is 10 weeks!

My sweet little girl is a ramblin' wreck from Georgia Tech! Here she is zoning out while daddy fell asleep after the game. They sure did cheer hard!
So I was starting to think that I had an unhappy baby because she wouldn't smile, but she's trying- with cute little grins! This is Claire giving Jeff the stank eye because he had the camera going in her face!

This is her getting excited about play time!
Claire is so much fun now! She still sleeps a lot and sometimes she cries a lot, but she's also starting to play and explore. She loves bumbo time, tummy time, and is even starting to push off with her feet! I can't believe how fast she's growing and I can't believe that she already doesn't fit into some of her clothes. The funny thing is, she's so long that she doesn't fit into anything with footsies, but she's so skinny that she barely fits into newborn pants and skirts! It's hard to find clothes to fit a long skinny baby. I love her sweet, calm personality- you can tell she's a lot like Jeff (thank goodness!). I'm hoping to plan some trips soon to go to the applefest and to the pumpkin farm (I think I'll be more excited!!)

Two Months Old!

My sweet Claire is two months old! I'd like to say that time has flown by, but I feel like it's just going at the right pace. She is so alert and is starting to smile (she tries really hard and we've only gotten a few short smiles out of her). Jeff took her to the doctor on Thursday for her two month check up and here are the results"
Height: 22.5 inches
Weight: 11 lbs. 7oz.
She's growing so fast! The other day I had to pack away some of her newborn onsies that don't fit any more. What I'm finding is that she's getting too long for them to snap, but someone told me about some extenders- I'll look into that. She's sleeping for a few hours at a time (averages about 5 to 6 hours) so I'm usually up once at 3, then I feed her again at 6:30 before she leaves to go to Harmony's (my mom) or Mimi's (Jeff's mom) house. We are really blessed to have two grandmothers who can help us with Claire.

8 Weeks Old

It's hard to believe that Claire is 8 weeks old, I feel like I've been a mom for months now! She is so alert now and is starting to smile (hasn't actually done a full one yet). She started squeeking today- very cute- and she loves to sit up. Her neck is so strong and she sat up most of a football game today. Her sleep pattern is still very erratic- some nights she sleeps early and all night while others she stays up late and gets up every two hours. Today, I cleaned out Claire's closet and put away some of her clothes that she's already grown out of. She such a long baby that most of the newborn stuff doesn't fit her anymore. She's now in the 0-3 months and I'm afraid she's getting to long for that! I can't believe how fast she's growing and how much! She goes for a check up this thursday and I'm excited to see her new stats!
I've decided that Claire is going to be the next big Polo Ralph Lauren model! Here she is sporting her polo onesie that Meredith Mackenzie gave her. She's so cute!

My favorite cheer girls!

How cute are they?! We went to our first competition in Rome, GA at Model HS. I don't know about them, but I was so nervous! Truthfully, our routine was pulled together at the last minute and the girls did an awesome job! I sat next to Tracey (the head Varsity coach) and she was screaming the cheer, but I couldn't even open my mouth because I had tears in my eyes. They really did an awesome job and they came in 2nd! Wish us luck, we have a HUGE competition next Saturday at Woodland and there are some tough schools in our region!

Special thanks to Coach Tracey Moore who has done so much while I've been out on maternity leave. Don't know what I'd do without her!

Decorating- A Slow Process

I love to watch HGTV and Fine Living Network to get ideas about what I should do around my house. Of course, I don't have the time, money, or know how to accomplish their cute projects, but I'm trying. My front porch, and really the front of my house in general, was looking a little ghetto. I decided to spruce it up a bit for fall so I added a pretty wreath and two pots with the monogram "L" on them. Jeff dug up the crappy azalea bushes (those bushes are stupid!) and we replaced them with holly bushes.

I've been slowly redecorating the inside as well. I bought the flower painting and shutters from A Classy Flea and then I added some candles and the cutest plate with an "L" on it that I painted. That was a really fun project that I saw one of my sorority sisters do.
So now I'm looking for furniture in my sitting room- if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them!

My Sweet Little Chickie!

About a week ago, I was upstairs and I heard Jeff yelling for me to grab the camera and hurry down. When I got to the sunroom, I was looking frantically around for something spectacular. What he pointed out was definitely spectacular- it was my very little girl in her very big bumbo! She was sitting in it holding her own head up! Of course every so often her head would fall down, but for the most part, she loved sitting up and looking around! It was definitely too much fun!
This is a cute pic of Claire ready to go to her Mimi and Grandpa's house for Labor Day! Yes, she is wearing a matching plaid hat!
I put Claire on the changing part of her pack n' play and I went to get another diaper. When I came back, I found my little girl with a bib on her head! She had grabbed the bib that was hanging off the changing part and managed to put it on her face. Then she was all grouchy because she couldn't understand what was going on. I had a really good laugh!
These days are my favorite. I go downstairs to do some laundry, and when I come back up, I find my sweet little girl passed out on her Daddy's shoulder. She stayed this way for quite some time. It was so sweet and such a great moment!

Anxiety :o/

My last week with my sweet little girl flew by so fast! I felt like I didn't even get to accomplish anything I wanted to do. Jeff got to work from home on Thursday and some Friday so it was nice to have some family time together. On saturday, I dropped off Jeff at Georgia Tech in the wee hours of the morning and made my way to Carrollton for recruitment. A pleasant surprise was my very good friend Kelly, who is currently at Samford Law School. She popped in to see recruitment and stayed the night with my other friend Brandi and she got a few Claire minutes that morning! It was so wonderful to see her, she's such a blessing and I really miss her! Anyway, we went to recruitment on Saturday and Claire slept the entire time. Then we picked up Jeff around 9:00 pm that night. Yes folks, that's over 12 hours of tailgating. My husband was horse from screaming at the game and celebrating Georgia's loss. Sunday was a calm day around the house and today we went to Rich and Marci's house for some lunch. We got to see Jimmy, Ardis, and Era (who grows like a weed!). It was nice to have family time! I did feel bad because Claire cried A LOT. I swear she doesn't have colic, she was so fussy because she fights sleep and she has a little gas in her tummy. When we got home, we unwrapped a HUGE surprise in her diaper and after that she was a really quiet baby.

So here's the kicker...

I go back to work tomorrow and I'm super nervous. I hate the idea of leaving Claire, even though I know she'll be in good grandma hands. I think I'm more upset because she'll start doing fun things, and I won't be around to see them. I'll miss out on her growing up. If I had a million dollars I'd stay at home and bask in her cuteness all day long. Until I make my millions, I have to go back to work. I'm interested to see how my life will work out- balancing my duties, wants, needs, and family.
This is how I feel sometimes...

People tell you not to feel guilty about having a messy house or looking crazy (messy hair, spit up all over your clothes, no make up, and HUGE bags under your eyes). No matter how many times people say that, it takes a while to get to the point where you accept being messy and smelly. I'm slowly learning to let go of trying to be in control of everything. As long as Claire is healthy and happy, I'm happy- even if I'm super ugly! Say a little prayer for me guys, I'm going back to the crazy zone. Only 11 more weeks until Thanksgiving break! (Yes, I'm counting down)

One Month Check Up

Hard to believe that we're already at 5 weeks, but here we are!! Above is a pic of when she was just hours old and now she actually looks like a person. We went for Claire's one month check up on wedensday and here are here stats:

At Birth:
Weight 7 lbs. 9oz.
Length 20 inches

At one month:
Weight 9 lbs. 14oz.
Lenth 22 inches

HOLY BIG BABY! I can't believe she's almost 10 pounds! She sure is a great eater. What we know about her is...

She looks just like Jeff when he was a baby. She has his eyes, eye lashes, and she sleeps a lot like him.
She has my lips, chin, and eye color (we think she'll be a brown eyed girl).

I'm just waiting for her personality to start showing. Right now she's a pretty quiet baby. I took her for a run tonight and she layed in the stroller and looked around. We are finding that she likes to exercise her lungs in the evening and it drives us crazy! We look silly bouncing, rocking, singing, and pleading with her. It's funny what you'll do just to make a crying baby happy. I swear she looks at us with this "WTF?!" look- probably because she knows we have no freaking idea what we're doing! I'm getting sad because I have one full week left with her until I go back to work. Although I'll be happy not to be laying in the bed covered in spit up, I sure will miss my little girl. I am finding that my vocabulary is shot since I have little verbal interaction with people. My mind is mush and it's hard for me to retrieve simple words, but I hear this is pretty normal. I'm hoping that soon I can return back to my normal self and I can have quality conversations with my friends.

I'm trying to finish up the bulk of my decorating, but it's hard when a baby wants your full attention. Claudia, Ardis' mother, says that you have to have an inspiration picture of what you want your room to look like. I found this room that Candace Olsen did on Divine Design and I love the colors. Although my sitting room won't look as modern, I am using the same color scheme: blues, whites, silvers, and a touch of fuscia. I can't wait to see how it will turn out!

My little Alpha Gamma Delta Legacy!

This saturday, Claire and I ventured to the cozy college town of Carrollton, GA for the ribbon cutting ceremony at the new greek village. Above is a picture of the new Alpha Gam house! I love the decor inside. It's a great mix of modern and traditional and they used browns, teals, and greens. Not exactly the red, buff, and green fraternity colors, but still cute none the less. Claire loved seeing everyone and she did really well. I felt like a crappy mother because we stayed there a long time because of open house, an EC meeting, and then recruitment pracitce. I did learn that as long as you have a food supply (me) and enough diapers, you can go almost anywhere with a baby!

Here's a picture of some of the best Alpha Gam alum and their cute babies! It was great seeing everyone and hearing about their kids, husbands, lives, etc! I'm excited that one day she'll get to go through recruitment and be apart of something fun!

4 Weeks old and still sleepy!

Today marks four fantastic weeks with Claire! So much has changed in such a short time. Claire opens her eyes more, stays awake during the day for longer times, newborn clothes still fit but some are a little snug, and Claire's booty is getting too big for the newborn diapers! Her face changes each day and some days she looks just like me, while others she looks more and more like Jeff. We're starting to do tummy time and this morning, she scooted herself off the boppy! I am still waiting for the night when she sleeps for 10+ hours... I'm starting to lose hope that this will ever happen. We're still waking up every 3 hours at night to eat, but the good news is she goes right back to sleep after eating. I DVR shows to watch at night so now I love some crazy/interesting shows: The T.O. Show, Hardknocks: Cincinati Bengals, Ruby, Design Inc., etc. Only two more weeks with my sweet little girl.

Almost the end of week one!

Mornings with Claire are so much fun! At first she's so sleepy and loves to lay on her belly. Once I get her changed, she's ready to talk my ear off and is the sweetest wiggle worm! I know I still have a little over 3 weeks with Claire, but the thought of leaving her makes me a little misty eyed! I love spending time with her and learning all the new things she does everyday.
Being a stay at home mom hasn't been too boring so far. By the time we get up and get ready to go do something, it's almost noon! I did learn yesterday that malls are not always the most baby friendly place. Not too many people come running out of no where to help you with doors and feeding is a little bit of a trial. It was fun and I'm thankful she slept while I got to shop. I'm trying to think of clever ideas of how to make money while I sit at home and play with Claire. So far, nothing has come to mind. If anyone has suggestions, I'd be willing to entertain the idea!

Daddy's first day back at work

Today was the first day Jeff went back to work. Claire and I got up around 8 and had breakfast, then we cleaned up around the house. After stopping by my parents, I took Claire to her first decorating store- The Decorating Mart. Claire helped me pick a yellow fabric that has a greek key pattern on it. We tried to go to Walmart to grocery shop, but Claire got so hungry. We went home to eat and now we're patiently waiting for Jeff. All in all it was a pretty productive and fun day. I'm glad I still get four more weeks with her doing this everyday. I used to think stay at home moms got really bored and watched TV all the time, but truthfully, I haven't even looked at the TV today! I have a few more things left on my to do list, so when Jeff gets home, I'm going to knock out the rest! One thing I'm excited about starting is the Couch to 5k podcast!

2 Weeks

Happy 2 week birthday, Claire! Tonight is girls night in. Jeff is hanging with some of his friends for a little bit so I decided to try and give Claire her first full bath. It was a new adventure!! I woke her up and put her in a warm bath. At first she was fine, but then she started to cry (which totally broke my heart!). I finished up, put a new outfit on her, and then fed her. Now she's sleeping soundly next to me!

Today was a little tough. I slept most of the day because I was so exhausted! I figure I better get in all the sleep I can before Jeff goes back to work next week. Around 5pm, Jeff came in with Claire and gave her to me because she was so fussy. She spent most of the afternoon pretty mad until I fed her and then she dozed off for a little while. We're excited because she's spending more time up during the day, but we're finding out that she likes excercise her lungs for a little bit in the afternoon/evening.

On a fun note, my friend Meredith is going to have a fun play pal for Claire in December! Jeff and I have been bugging them for days about telling us whether it is a boy or girl. Today we found out, but I'll leave it up to her to tell everyone on her blog. We're so excited for them and we can't wait to meet baby Rand!!!

Finally, I've found a chair at my favorite store, The Classy Flea. It was $29.00 and not too cute, but with some white spray paint and cute Amy Butler fabric it will be gorgeous!! Once I'm done, I'll post some before and after pics!
